The project is a photographically documented journey discovering the awakening "Face of Freedom" in a new world post September 11, 2001.

This seven part creative series will travel the world examining people and places through portrait and documentary finding the "Faces of Freedom" in a new world. The first part will begin in America where the world changed on September 11, 2001. The location for the second part will take us to one of America's greatest ally in the new world the UK. The remaining locations for part three through seven will be announced in the coming months.

This summer, Lighthouse and ASU's Technology Based Learning and Research are taking a road trip across America. This is a creative project examining people and places through portrait and documentary. David Gibbons, Lighthouse, and Paul Skiera, ASU, will be directing and managing the crew on this historical trip. The trip is carefully planned across fourteen days with fourteen locations where people will be photographed and documented by professional camera crews. The culmination of this road trip will be the production of some 2800 dynamic studio-setting and crowd portraits by photographers David William Gibbons and Richard Knapp. Two documentary crews directed by Chris LaMont will study and record the events in detail with the view to meeting a mini series and short film feature. Following the selection and subsequent portraits a documentary crew will undertake a short interview of those who have been chosen for this record. A second documentary crew will be following David Gibbons and studying interaction and dialogue as he selects his subjects. Both crews will also be documenting the period of arrival and departure from locations as well as the legs between towns and cities.

As an Englishman with a unique view and solid admiration of America David Gibbons will be the force behind the selection of subjects and production of narrative accompanying the portraits in a coffee table publication. The selection of subjects will be based upon photographic/artistic considerations and a deliberate choice based upon diversity and the emotional conditions experienced during the day. This challenge will reflect social, economic and emotional conditions met at each place from which experiences will be shared through narrative and film. Stark realities will become evident from this in terms of social and economic climate collected from a culturally diverse country. These will be interpreted and reflected in the portraits, film and narrative raising comment and dialogue. The result will be that of inspiring unity and understanding at a time of great uncertainty and change post September 11, 2001.
